Collage in three dimensions:
Paper alchemy. Inspired by Masahiro Chatani’s “origamic architecture” (a type of kirigami, itself a variation of origami that includes cuts).
I have coined the term “collapsible collage” for this, my most recent body of work in progress. More to come.
In these constructions layers evoke frescoes, ruins, landscapes, fortresses, villas.
Collages in the loosest sense in that there are paper elements but no adhesive involved. Sumi ink, watercolor, graphite. Bristol paper.
Exploratory and ephemeral, these particular landscapes no longer in exist in real time — the photo has become the thing itself.
Flat collages that pop up into collapsible structures. Mixed media: mid-century magazine clippings and sumi ink on heavyweight bristol paper.
