Photo encaustic is a mixed-media art form. My own process begins by shooting a photograph of something I love—maybe a flower, a landscape, even vintage tiles.
I then print the image on acid-free paper and adhere it to an archival cradled panel. Next, using a combination of blow torch, heat iron, and/or heat gun, along with assorted hand tools, I fuse multiple layers of molten beeswax mixed with damar resin, also known as encaustic. The result is an original piece of fine art rendered in a painterly style with palpable texture and the look of time-worn patina.
Ready to hang or simply sit on a shelf.
