PHOTO ENCAUSTIC KIT

PHOTO ENCAUSTIC DEMYSTIFIED! Curious about photo encaustic but not enough to plunk down megabucks to get started? This kit provides an introduction to three simple and pretty much foolproof photo encaustic processes – dipping, pouring, and brushing – and includes detailed instructions, materials, and supplies for doing so. Secondary processes of incising, transferring, and layering are also covered. The kit includes: - uncolored encaustic medium (a refined combination of beeswax and damar resin) - pigmented oil stick (colored medium with oil) - digital printing paper - melting can - wood panels - risers - natural bristle Hake brush - stick - transfer sheet - waxed paper - sandpaper - CD instruction guide Kit does NOT include heating devices for melting wax (e.g., electric skillet, warming tray, Crock-Pot®, or double-boiler) or for fusing wax (e.g., tacking iron or heat gun), which are essential for the process. All are widely available and I would be happy to provide you with resources upon request. Once you’ve gotten your feet wet, if you decide to immerse yourself in photo encaustic, you may want to take it further by making your own mixtures of wax and pigment; choosing from a colorful array of refined encaustic medium and pigment sticks; and investing in additional materials, equipment, and supplies. Resources for doing so are included in the detailed guide accompanying the kit. This kit is for use by adults only and is not suitable for children! Caution must be exercised to maintain a liquid temperature of 225 degrees Fahrenheit or less to ensure wax does not smoke. Over-heated wax will smoke, and that smoke is toxic. Proper ventilation is a must. (Photos show representative samples and are not included in the kit.) For more about Photo Encaustic, see "What is Photo Encaustic?"
