Peace Flag

Peace Flag

$20.00

In the meditative process of creating peace flags, I visualize peace, and abstract marks are made with that intention.

Perfectly imperfect: My Peace flags are made from upcycled teabags that have been boiled for sterilization but still retain traces of tea stain. They feature a border accent of handmade batik paper from Nepal. Each flag is an original piece of art, and as such no two are alike. Imperfections such as small holes, uneven or torn edges, and ink spatter are intrinsic to the process. Being made from teabags, they are surprisingly strong yet still delicate and should be handled with care.

Each flag measures approximately 3 1/2” by 5” and is accompanied by a length of waxed linen thread and a bronze gourd pin to facilitate hanging. Your flag may be hung to float in front of a window for maximum transparency, on a hook or doorknob, anywhere it might benefit from a passing breeze, or simply on the wall as you would any piece of decorative art. Conducive to meditation, it will add dimension to an altar or shrine. The final photo shows what a similar item looks like hanging in a variety of settings.

You choose a variant in terms of the batik border, and I will choose a flag for you. All flags are made with black Sumi ink.

Warning: The Peace flag is not a toy. It is not intended for children, and it is not intended to be displayed in a child’s room. It is a piece of mixed media art created with Sumi ink, includes a small, sharp pin, and should not be swallowed or ingested. It should be hung out of the reach of children.
